A new agreement to recognize and transfer credits, along with the development of academic pathways for students, marks a significant milestone in the academic partnership between Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) and Adelaide University, Australia (AU).

The signing ceremony took place on the morning of August 12, 2025, with the attendance of Ms. Sarah Hooper, Australian Consul General in Vietnam; Mr. David Lloyd, Co-Vice-Chancellor of Adelaide University; and Ms. Jessica Gallagher, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for International and External Engagement. Australia and Vietnam have shared a substantive and long-standing relationship. Vietnamese students constitute the third-largest group of international students at Adelaide University. HCMUT and Adelaide University have established a strong foundation of collaboration over the years, particularly through international joint programs under a global pathway model, as well as various research and exchange activities. These achievements have laid the groundwork for both universities to expand further and elevate their collaboration in the future.

Mr. David Lloyd, Co-Vice-Chancellor of Adelaide University, noted that the University of Adelaide has recently merged with the University of South Australia, two of the state’s largest higher education institutions, under the unified name Adelaide University. The merger unites more than 180 years of shared expertise to drive innovation in education. As a newly integrated member of the prestigious Group of Eight (Go8) research-intensive universities, Adelaide University aims to expand collaboration with HCMUT in recognition of credit, transfer pathways, and student mobility.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tran Vu, Vice President of HCMUT, affirmed the shared commitment to providing students with the best opportunities for learning and development.

Under the agreement, students will begin their studies at HCMUT before transferring to Adelaide University in South Australia, where their credits will be assessed for recognition and they will continue their academic program. To be eligible for the transfer, students must meet the following requirements: complete the relevant courses at HCMUT as specified in the credit mapping appendix and achieve the grade requirements set by AU; meet AU’s English language proficiency standards and other admission criteria; fulfill the conditions for an Australian student visa; and complete all application procedures and pay the admission fees to AU.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tran Vu, Vice President of HCMUT, affirmed that the agreement reflects a shared commitment between the two universities to providing students with the best opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed in a rapidly changing world. Students will enjoy a seamless academic journey—starting at HCMUT and continuing at Adelaide University.
