Inauguration of the Energy Systems Lab: A major milestone in cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Schneider Electric

The first low-voltage energy management and industrial automation modules have been installed at the Energy Systems Lab, a joint project between Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) and Schneider Electric, aimed at providing hands-on training, advancing digital research in electrical engineering, and promoting sustainable development for approximately 1,000 students annually.

The inauguration ceremony took place on the morning of December 17, 2025, with the attendance of Mr. Dong Mai Lam, Cluster President of Schneider Electric in Vietnam and Cambodia; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tran Vu, Vice President of HCMUT, along with leadership representatives of both parties and project partners.

The Energy Systems Laboratory, being established within the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, is part of a cooperation agreement signed between Schneider Electric and HCMUT in February 2025. The project is implemented under a five-year long-term orientation (2025–2029), focusing on solutions and technologies in the following areas: low-voltage energy management, industrial automation, power grid protection and operation, digitalization, and industrial software.

In Phase 1 (2025–2026), Schneider Electric sponsored a low-voltage energy management module system to support teaching and practical training in courses related to power distribution and power supply systems with industrial automation modules to serve courses and capstone projects in Electrical Engineering, Automation, and Electrical Energy Systems.

Upon receiving the sponsorship from Schneider Electric, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tran Vu affirmed that this is a valuable resource, making an important contribution to HCMUT’s training and research activities. The project also demonstrates the spirit of effective partnership between the university and business, especially as the university strives to realize the objectives set out in the Central Resolutions (No. 57-NQ/TW and No. 71-NQ/TW) regarding breakthroughs in science and technology and the development of higher education.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tran Vu expressed his expectation that the lab would serve as a foundation for HCMUT and Schneider Electric to expand cooperation into smart grids, renewable energy, and clean energy – key research areas that the university prioritizes in the coming period.

For Schneider Electric, the project goes beyond a donation; it reflects the company’s strong commitment to education and the development of the next generation of talent, as shared by Mr. Dong Mai Lam. He affirmed that Schneider Electric will ensure the effective operation of the lab, continuously update emerging technology trends, and equip students with practical knowledge and greater confidence to enter the labor market, particularly in international corporations such as Schneider Electric.
