Information systems have evolved at a rapid pace ever since their introduction in the 1950s. However, large enterprises can capture trends in information systems and invest in information systems relatively easily, while small and medium enterprises need to have their own information system approach to their very limited resources.
The objective of the course is to expose learners to both the theoretical principles and the practical applications of MIS in SMEs, an important sector, a driving force in the economy covering more than 95% registered businesses which have special characteristics different from large businesses.
The course is organized in 3 parts. The first part concentrates on characteristics of SMEs and benefits that MIS can bring to SMEs. In the 2nd part, approach for SMEs to make strategy, select, plan MIS project. The third part is about the management and maintence of MIS in SMEs.
Upon completion of the course, learners will have gained the knowledge and basic skills necessary for conducting the MIS for SMEs.
