As Vietnam’s industrial environment changes, lean manufacturing has become more well-known for its ability to increase operational efficiency and decrease waste in order to boost business competitiveness. Students studying industrial management are well-positioned to capitalize on the current circumstances and advance their careers in this area. However, because industrial management students study a wide range of courses, including marketing, operations, financing, and service quality management, they may find it difficult to decide on a career path. The purpose of the sharing is to give BKU’s IM students additional understanding of lean manufacturing in the workforce by sharing the experience and reflections of an alumni employed by an MNC manufacturing company.
The alumni will recommend certain information and skills that IM students should acquire and provide instances of how they will be used in the workplace.
- Thorough understanding of Lean Principles: It is imperative that students comprehend the fundamental tenets of Lean, which encompass minimization of waste, ongoing enhancement, striving for excellence, and fostering mutual prosperity via staff involvement. Applied Lean principles require a solid understanding of value, value stream, flow, pull, and perfection.
- Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: In Lean manufacturing, it is essential to be able to recognize problems and find solutions using techniques like critical thinking and root cause analysis.
- Data Analysis and Process Mapping: Students who are proficient in these areas may visualize current processes and make data-driven decisions.
- Collaboration and Teamwork: In Lean workplaces, cross-functional teamwork and effective communication are critical for success.
- Office Applications (Excel, PowerPoint, and PowerBI): these hard skills will let students demonstrate their knowledge and turn it into contributions that are beneficial to the company. These abilities will frequently provide you with several opportunities to engage in project teams early in your career.
Beyond knowledge and abilities, what matters most is having the appropriate attitude about your work. Consider it a chance for personal development. It is intended to be a delightful and meaningful journey. Working should be a way to improve your life on the whole. So, enjoy the journey.
