The two most cutting-edge mobile mapping devices in the world run a test at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT)

Leica Pegasus TRK700 Neo (Switzerland) and Trimble MX 50 (U.S.A) were first present in Vietnam and operated at one location at HCMUT campus on the morning of June 22nd, 2022, by HCMUT in collaboration with Portcoast Consultant Corporation Joint-stock Co. (Portcoast).

These two cutting-edge devices in the world can quickly and accurately scan 3D survey maps for infrastructure systems, an indispensable platform for the smart cities and 4.0 construction industry.

Leica Geosystem Company brought Leica Pegasus TRK700 Neo as the company’s first and most cutting-edge product in early June 2022 to the event to introduce the product and run a test.

At the event, Postcoast Vice President Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung (HCMUT alumni of the intake 97) introduced the device and elaborated on the necessity of students’ access to state-of-the-art technologies. The accessibility can help develop their thinking and acquire the vast knowledge of humankind that is useful to their career in the future. Portcoast, a leading consultant in digital transformation technology, given the 3D Laser Scanning and Mobile Mapping, owns Asia’s first Trimble MX 50 Mobile mapping device. “If any students are interested in learning about the company’s cutting-edge devices, the company are ready to make their expectation come true”, Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung stressed.

Postcoast Vice President Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung introduced the devices to interested students.

HCMUT Vice President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Danh Thao noted the event is a brilliant opportunity for students to learn about the world’s most cutting-edge 3D Laser Scanner. The university support events in collaboration with external partners to introduce the most modern technologies to support students’ study.

The two devices are part of the 3D Laser Scanning products combining working functions and moving features in the geodetic surveying and mapping industries. The device, usually mounted on the roof of a car, captures LiDAR and panoramic images even at highway speeds. The device applies to many fields, such as construction, environment, ships, smart city planning, topographic surveying and so on. Through parameters, experts accurately reconstruct the up-to each centimeter detailed project into a model, thereby virtualization options for editing and restoration as a basis for experts to evaluate feasibility before actual construction.

The fact that the two above devices brought to the same event at HCMUT campus is quite rare has attracted a large number of staff and students to attend. The event is significant in marking Vietnam’s position alongside the world in accelerating digital transformation, especially in infrastructure digitalization.
